Cisco Grand Challenge Competition Management Underway

Looking to change the world? Cisco will be awarding a total of $250,000 to teams that have ideas with the power to do just that. The company’s Innovation Grand Challenge is looking for disruptive digital solutions that can make the world safer, more sustainable, and more connected. There’s no arguing with what is stated on the innovation contest website: There has never been a better time to innovate.

Promoting Change across All Areas of Daily Life

The Innovation Grand Challenge allows teams to develop ideas across a wide range of categories:

Transportation – Will you create a new venture that improves the way we travel?

Manufacturing – Does your venture transform manufacturing?

Infrastructure – Can you disrupt infrastructure with your ideas around network connectivity, data analytics or more?

Smart Cities – Can you transform government services and allow citizens to live a better, connected life?

Retail – Does your venture improve customer satisfaction and sales by disrupting retail?

Cybersecurity – Do you have a venture that makes people, businesses, and communities more secure?

Education – Do you have a venture that helps students become more productive?

Healthcare – Does your venture transform healthcare across the board?

Entering its third year, the Innovation Grand Challenge has evaluated the ideas of thousands of startups, and through the competition management judging process, selected five winners. For 2016, in addition to $150,000 for first place, $75,000 for second, and $25,000 for third, winners will benefit from mentoring by industry experts, access to Cisco Innovation Centers, and a trip to the Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal to pitch their ideas in the live finals.

The contest attracts technology startups and developers who are looking for an investment and support to help them bring their solution to market. It is open to individuals, teams, and legal entities from around the world that are looking to transform businesses or governments.

This Contest is One to Watch

Skild will be watching with interest as the field is narrowed to semifinalists, finalists, and ultimately winners. While Cisco doesn’t guarantee that it will “incubate” winners, it is a possibility, as is an investment or a joint solution development scenario. It’s exciting to think what a great idea and competition software backed by a leading company like Cisco could result in. We’ll keep you posted as the competition progresses. And 2017 will be here before you know it, so start brainstorming your big idea!
