It’s only in recent years that people have begun to realize that we don’t need to wait for major corporations to solve our problems for us. By gathering groups of smart, creative, curious, and motivated “hackers,” we can advance technology at twice the speed and a fraction of the cost of corporate research and development efforts. At least that’s the idea. And really, it’s only part of the equation. The other focus of the online contest management is simply to have fun hanging out with like-minded tech aficionados!
About the WiseHacks Hackathon
WiseHacks 2017 is the first annual hackathon coordinated by the University of Virginia-Wise Abingdon. It will be a 24-hour event taking place March 25 and 26, 2017 at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia. Major League Hacking (MLH), a hacking oversight organization, has sanctioned the event.
Are you a college student over the age of 18 who has technical skills and a strong desire to test them by designing and building new software solutions and hardware hacks? If so, this may be the event for you. You’ll spend 24 hours over the course of two days learning about new technology, meeting with expert mentors, and networking with your peers to tackle a challenge that you choose. This could include creating a mobile app, building a website, or developing a cool hardware hack. Starting from square one, you’ll produce a working prototype that can be pitched to our panel of judges by the conclusion of the hackathon.
The event is free and it promises to be a great weekend. Not only will you get your hands on some cutting-edge hardware from MLH, you’ll be able to attend one of the featured tech talks and learn more about an area that interests you. There will be free food and beverages, and some fun distractions like cup stacking and corn hole competitions, and door prizes from the event’s sponsors. Plus you’ll get a WiseHacks 2017 t-shirt.
Again, the event is free but you’ll need to register. Just go to wisehacks.eventbrite.com to sign up.
We’re big fans of hackathons at Skild, where our online contest software makes it simple to manage this type of event. Got some free time in late March? Test your skills at the first-ever WiseHacks hackathon.
