Registration Opens for DOM Environmental Online Contest Management

DOM is a word inspired by the idea of continuity and sustainability in Arabic. Launched by Youth Vision, the online contest management is focused on raising environmental awareness in the country of Oman. For those familiar with the name but not its geographic location, Oman is on the Persian Gulf and is bordered by the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest. It has marine borders in common with Iran and Pakistan.

Organizers want the event to help promote a socio-environmental culture by challenging young people to come up with innovative ideas for addressing local environmental issues in creative and sustainable ways. Supported and promoted by BP Oman, the event is the first of its kind in the country. It is hoped that it will not only help solve environmental problems, but will also help foster a culture of innovative entrepreneurship.

About the Event

DOM is open to people between the ages of 18 and 25, in groups of three to five members. The projects they propose must be unique and innovative, and must be viable in the sultanate. The solutions must also have a positive and sustainable environmental impact and be economically feasible. Participants will be responsible for the intellectual property rights of their ideas. Registration for the competition is open until March 12, 2017.

DOM organizers recognize that environmental issues are increasing and, for many, the quality of life is decreasing due to the unsustainable use of natural resources. With so many potential areas to focus on, the innovation competition does not restrict participants to a specific theme or themes. Instead, it allows teams to propose their own theme and idea. The winning team will have the opportunity to travel abroad on an educational trip to visit an organization focused on environmental sustainability.

Youth Vision’s goal with this event is to provide young people with personal development opportunities and to get them involved in issues that affect the wellbeing of the community. It also stresses the importance of volunteering and giving back to the community.

Innovation: Another International Language

It’s often said that things like art, music, and sports are a type of “international language.” At Skild, we believe that innovation is another passion that unites us all. That’s why we provide online contest software that make it easier for organizers and sponsors to create worthwhile challenges like DOM.
